What typical diet: overview of dieting
Diets: A typical diet consists of cutting calories, sugar, and fat. Sure this will cause you to lose weight, but is this what you want to do to your body?
Lets take a look at what these ‘diets’ do to your body.
1. Lowers your metabolic rate causing you to store more energy as fat and making it harder for you to lose weight the longer you diet.
2. Deprives your body of needed energy and vitamins and minerals causing you to feel sluggish and tired.
3. Destroyes your lean muscle tissue due to lack of nutrients needed for normal uses.
4. Increases your body fat ratio.
5. Increases your risks for numerable health related disorders and illness.
Over a period of a couple months on these diets you will eventually lower your metabolism. This is caused by the reduced amount of calories you are now eating. Your body will adjust for your new eating habits and soon you won’t be losing anymore weight. Now that your metabolism is lower your body also starts storing more food as fat because it knows it may be a while till you eat again.
You are also depriving yourself of needed energy and nutrients. Your body requires so many calories just to operate at its current level. Your body also needs vitamins and minerals which are needed from a wide range of foods, to function properly.
Your muscles require carbohydrates protein and lots of water to stay strong. When your body needs more energy than what it can provide it takes it from your muscles. This means your becoming weaker instead of stronger. Also your body fat ratio is a ratio of your lean body mass to fat. The less muscle you have the higher your body fat ratio. Most anarexics are actually obese(40% or more body fat). You can actually lower your body fat gaining weight. If you weigh 200 lbs and are at 25% body fat you have 50 lbs of fat. If you gain 10 lbs of muscle you’ll weigh 210 lbs and have a body fat of 23.8%.
